ORIGIN & FUNCTIONS

DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS

Organized in March 2017, the Department of Public Works plans, constructs, and maintains the County's public works.

The Department is responsible for three divisions: General Services, Roads and Waterways, and Solid Waste and Drainage.

GENERAL SERVICES DIVISION
The General Services Division was made part of the Department of Public Works in March 2017.

ROADS & WATERWAYS DIVISION
Initially, the Roads Department was a separate department, but reformed as the Roads and Waterways Division when the Department of Public Works was created in March 2017.

The Division constructs and maintains County roads and bridges.

SOLID WASTE & DRAINAGE DIVISION
The Solid Waste and Drainage Division began as the Department of Solid Waste, and reformed as the Solid Waste Division under the Department of Public Works in March 2017. It was later renamed the Solid Waste and Drainage Division.

The Division is responsible for waste management in Somerset County.
