Preliminary Report to Governor & General Assembly due Dec. 1, 2018 (Chapters 301 & 302, Acts of 2018).

Final Report to Governor & General Assembly due Dec. 1, 2019 (Chapters 301 & 302, Acts of 2018).

In June 2018, the Commission to Advance Next Generation 9-1-1 Across Maryland was authorized (Chapters 301 & 302, Acts of 2018).

Maryland's original 9-1-1 System was authorized in 1979, and carried out by the Emergency Number Systems Board. That 9-1-1 System is based on a landline phone system. Next generation technology provides more accurate caller location information and more efficient response.

The Commission is charged with studying and making recommendations about the development and implementation of a next generation 9-1-1 statewide emergency communications system. Further, the Commission is to examine all costs for planning, testing, and operating a next generation system, as well as consider the best practices, policies, and procedures for public safety telecommunications.

Authorization for the Commission ends June 30, 2020.
