In July 2018, the Baltimore County Anti-Bullying Task Force was created (Chapter 496, Acts of 2018).
For two school years, 2018-19 and 2019-20, the Task Force is to compile data on the number of incidents of bullying, cyberbullying, harassment, and intimidation, including how each incident was resolved. Next, the Task Force will study both current disciplinary actions and the range of potential disciplinary options for students determined to have violated school policy with respect to these offenses. Finally, the Task Force will make recommendations on strategies and programming for a countywide anti-bullying campaign; whether disciplinary action for a violation of bullying policy should be the same countywide; and if community service should be considered as a disciplinary action. Other areas for recommendations by the Task Force will define options for victims of intimidation who feel unsafe at school; procedures for notifying the parents both of the offender and the victim; procedures for informing a victim's parents of actions taken to keep the victim safe in school; methods of anonymous reporting of bullying by students; school resources available for students who have been threatened and their parents; and electronic learning for students who have violated anti-bullying policy and whose presence in school is disruptive.
Authorization for the Task Force ends December 31, 2020.
