RUNNING

Throughout the year, running events center at various locales throughout Maryland. The Maryland Running Guide provides information on running clubs and places to run.

Started in 1985, it was not held in certain years, last run in 2006, and eventually cancelled due to lack of funding.

The successor to the Governor's Bay Bridge Run is the annual Across the Bay 10K, which started in November 2014. The sixth largest 10K in the United States, the 2019 race will not be run on the Bridge, but will be a virtual run as the Bridge will be undergoing maintenance at that time. Also in November, various "turkey trot" races are scheduled for Thanksgiving Day or after.

In Baltimore, the Baltimore Road Runners Club sponsors running and walking events year round, and the Annual Fort McHenry Tunnel 5K Run/Walk next will be in September 2019. Also in "Charm City," the Baltimore Marathon, also known as the Baltimore Running Festival, is next scheduled for October 19, 2019. The 26.2-mile race features some $100,000 in prizes.

In Western Maryland, the Frederick Running Festival was held May 4-5, 2019.

The Maryland Half-Marathon & 5K, a charity run benefiting the University of Maryland Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center, now held in Maple Lawn in Howard County, will next be held June 8, 2019. Previously, it had been held in Timonium, Baltimore County.

In Montgomery County, the Nanty Narking Nearly 9K & 2 Mile Fun Stroll was held in Sandy Spring in May 2016 and 2017. It followed a path by local historic sites, and offered Civil War era music as well.
